At Hyosung, we take pride in recognizing employees who demonstrate exceptional dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence. This month, we are excited to spotlight Mark Palmer, our Director of Facilities and Physical Security, as March’s Employee of the Month! Mark has been a vital part of Hyosung for seven years, consistently ensuring our facilities operate efficiently and securely.

Q: How long have you worked at Hyosung? What was your start date?
A: 7 years as of January 22nd.

Q: Can you tell us a little more about your background and how you joined the company in?
A: I’ve had a diverse career, starting with roles at Goodyear and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department before pursuing higher education. After studying computer programming at Texas State Technical College, I spent nearly a decade in the field. I then moved into retail with HEB, progressing from carryout to store management, and eventually transitioned to facilities management, where I’ve spent 16 years. I earned my Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Colorado Technical University and have managed operations at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless and the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center. I joined Hyosung in January of 2018. In 2025, I will celebrate 19 years in facilities management.

Q: What was your first impression of Hyosung?
A: With 12 years in facilities management and recent experience in the nonprofit sector, I was impressed by Hyosung’s innovation and efficiency. Coming from a resourceful nonprofit background, I quickly saw Hyosung’s ability to deliver smart, consumer-focused solutions that stood out. The company’s vision and capability to drive meaningful change really resonated with me.

Q: Are there any important skills or attributes that are important for someone that wants to pursue a career here? Is there anything about your job or your team that you think people outside would find surprising or different in the way you/it works?
A: To succeed at Hyosung, adaptability, problem-solving, and customer focus are essential. Innovation drives the company, so being open to change and collaboration is key. A strong work ethic and proactive approach are also important in an environment that values continuous improvement.

Q: Can you tell us about your role and summarize your day-to-day responsibilities?
A: As Director of Facilities and Physical Security, I manage the maintenance, safety, and efficiency of our physical assets to ensure a secure environment. My responsibilities include overseeing operations, optimizing building systems, ensuring security and safety compliance, and working with vendors and teams to improve infrastructure. I focus on addressing daily challenges while planning long-term improvements to support the company’s success.

Q: What inspires you every day?
A: I’m inspired by the opportunity to create safe, efficient, and well-maintained environments that support both the business and the people who rely on our facilities. Knowing that my work directly impacts security, operations, and overall success keeps me motivated every day.

Q: In 5 years what do you want to achieve or where do you see you yourself? This can be a personal goal or a career goal.
A: In five years, I hope to have advanced further in my career, taking on greater leadership responsibilities and contributing to the continued success of the organization. I’m committed to growing my skills and expertise, and my goal is to be in a position where I can have an even greater impact on the company’s strategic direction and long-term goals.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?
A: I enjoy spending time with my wife and our two cats, Amber and Lily. We love attending church, watching college football, and going to concerts together.

Q: Do you have favorite memory or standout accomplishments you want to talk about? Moment during your employment at Hyosung? With your team, customer, or event, etc…
A: One of my standout accomplishments at Hyosung was transitioning the entire facilities department from paper-based systems to digital. I also developed a system to track all expenses by year, trade, and facility, which provided us with clearer insights and better control over our budget. This shift significantly improved our efficiency and data-driven decision-making, making a lasting impact on our operations.

We are grateful to have Mark as a part of the Hyosung team. His dedication, leadership, and problem-solving skills make a difference every day. Congratulations, Mark, on being our March Employee of the Month!
