Welcome to Hyosung’s employee spotlight! Our June Spotlight is on Edward Jang, Senior Director of Supply Chain. Get to know more about Edward below!

Q: How long have you worked at Hyosung? What was your start date?

A: 9 years 10 months (9/18/2012)

Q: Can you tell us a little more about your background and how you joined the company in 2012?

A: I used to work for Hyosung HQ in Korea and relocated to the U.S back in 2012. CFO reached out to me and hired me for the experience with Hyosung.

Q: What was your first impression of Hyosung?

A: The company had lots of potential for business growth as Hyosung just closed contact with Chase for the first time.

Q: Are there any important skills or attributes that are important for someone that wants to pursue a career as a Supply Chain Director? Is there anything about your job or your team that you think people outside would find surprising or different in the way you/it works?

A: Harmonizing on-time supply to meet customers’ expectation. Especially these days, due to global supply issue, production lead time from Korea went up to 6 months while customers want it done asap. Accurate forecasting, monitoring HQ’s production schedule is very important.

Q: Can you tell us about your role and summarize your day-to-day responsibilities?

A: My role is to make sure of supplying ATMs and Parts all the way to customers without any delays. In order to do that, proper level of inventory should be maintained and supply from Korea should be made on time. Any customer orders should go out as scheduled. I monitor and manage that on a daily basis.

Q: What inspires you every day?

A: As other departments do, we face new issues that never happened before every day. Finding a way how we resolve the issue with the least cost and delay makes me stand on my toe and learn. So I can deal with issues later more wisely

Q: In 5 years what do you want to achieve or where do you see you yourself? This can be a personal goal or a career goal.

A: System automation. Being a lack of system automation or process in all the supply chain aspect exposes us to manual work which causes lots of time spending and human error. By applying system automation, I would like to minimize manual work that will gives us more efficiency.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

A: I would like to keep learning. I am planning to expand my knowledge to accounting field and that I am looking to go back to school or have some accounting class. In free time, I play golf.

Q: Do you have favorite memory or standout accomplishment during your time at Hyosung?

A: Back in 2014, for the first time, I integrated 2 different inventory management system called SAP and MES. SAP is a system more toward financing and MES is toward warehousing system. We didn’t use MES system with full functionality because of inventory variance between these 2 systems and user-unfriendly system. They instead used excel spreadsheet for inventory management that can cause lots of human error. So I integrated these 2 systems by rebuilding MES system from scratch and since then, we have been using MES as our warehouse management system.
