Welcome to Hyosung’s employee spotlight! Our January spotlight is on Jessica Kim, Corporate Accounting Manager. Jessica just celebrated her 5th year anniversary this month at Hyosung! During her 5 years, Jessica has risen to all challenges and gone above and beyond. She is an integral part of the Finance team, and we are lucky to have her! “Jessica is very passionate and energetic. She has a great relationship with all departments in the company, and I’m always impressed by how she communicates with everyone with the same respect and with a positive attitude. I appreciate her contribution to Hyosung America during the last 5 years, and I look forward to her continuous support and growth,” said Jonghyun Lee, Chief Financial Officer.

Q: Tell us a little about your background. What did you do prior to joining Hyosung?

A: I was in Corporate Finance my entire career. I majored in Accounting, and I was never really interested in Public Accounting, so I started my career as an Accounting Clerk. I worked on the General Ledger and Treasury side of Finance for a Global Real Estate Company for 5 years, prior to joining Hyosung.

Q: Why did you choose to work for Hyosung?

A: Hyosung provided me the opportunity to learn about a different industry. I have never worked for an ATM manufacturer/bank services industry, and that was very appealing.

Q: How long have you worked at Hyosung?

A: I celebrated my 5-year anniversary on January 4th!

Q: What was your role when you first joined Hyosung and how has your role evolved?

A: I was hired as a Staff Accountant in January 2016. It was a much smaller group of eight people in Financial Planning and Accounting I was mainly handling GL and Treasury. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to grow within the department to Senior Accountant and then to my current position as Corporate Accounting Manager. My role has evolved from hands-on Accounting work to more of a supervisor role, but I still love to roll up my sleeves and help my team anytime they need me.

Q: What is the best part of your job?

A: I like the everyday challenges, which occur frequently. The BEST part of my job is that I get to work alongside my team members every day to solve the challenges together however small or big.

Q: Would you recommend a job to a friend? Why?

A: I would highly recommend it!! The company has a lot of opportunities to grow from within, and you will get to work with some of the top industry-leading team members!

Q: In 5 years what do you want to achieve or where do you see yourself at Hyosung?

A: I am working towards finishing my Master’s Degree and getting my CPA. I think in 5 years, I’d like to assume more management responsibilities and get involved in procedure and strategy-setting for Hyosung.

Q: What do you like to do outside of work?

A: I spend most of my time with my family. We love doing movie nights, and when weather permits, we love to go on a hike/walk along the trail near our house. I love to travel, and I am a little bummed that we are not able to travel as much for the time being. I try to do some fun activities at home like board games and barbecuing with my family.

Q: Can you think of a memorable moment during your employment at Hyosung?

A: I think every day is a memorable moment at Hyosung, but I think the most memorable moment would be when my accountant personally thanked me for giving her guidance and support when she was having a hard time with her tasks. My team is really important to me, and she’s one of my key staff members whom I cannot live without on a daily basis.

Q: How did Hyosung help you achieve your goals?

A: Hyosung has continuously given me an opportunity to challenge myself to new tasks and appreciate my coworkers. I’m impressed how the company and the executives always listen to the employees’ needs and are willing to change. As an employee, I truly appreciate that, and that’s why I have been here for 5 years and plan to stay!

Q: Finance can be full of challenges, what keeps you going when the going gets tough?

A: Mentorship has been a big factor in my success and getting through challenges. I’m lucky that I have mentors outside of Finance that I can turn to for anything. Also, finding the time to relax on the weekends is important! Bubble tea is my stress relief, and every Saturday, my friends and I go to Sharetea in Carrollton to enjoy bubble tea and chat.

We are proud to have Jessica on our team and so are her colleagues. Read what Samuel Lee, Controller has to say about her, “I have been working with Jessica for about 4 months, and in those months, I was able to recognize her outstanding qualities both as a person and as a colleague. She is consistently courteous and helpful to fellow employees and team members, especially when someone may need an extra hand, and she displays exceptional ability in managing her team.”
